Course Description
The Sports Medicine Certificate – Level 1 is your gateway into the world of functional fitness, movement therapy, and recovery-based training. Designed to provide a strong foundation in the core tools and methods used in sports medicine, this course equips participants with both the theoretical understanding and hands-on application needed to begin working in the health, wellness, or fitness industries.
You’ll learn to use a variety of professional tools safely and effectively — including barbell lifting, battle ropes, stretch techniques, suspension systems, cupping therapy, IASTM (instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation), kinesiology taping, breathwork, and more — all within a structured training programme that reflects real-world demands.
The course includes 1 month of intensive education, followed by a 5-month guided internship (minimum 1x/week- 2hours) to apply your skills in a practical setting and build coaching confidence under professional supervision at Movement & Sports Medicine Centre.

Breathing Level 1
- A deep dive into the intricacies of using kettlebell for improved performance and range of motion testings.
Cupping Therapy Level 1
- Includes an introduction to the principles and application of cupping.
- Students will learn static cupping techniques and placements on the back and hamstrings.
- They will also cover general use of cupping for health and wellbeing recovery, including detox protocols.
Battle Ropes Level 1
- Students will learn basic exercise physiology related to rope training.
- They will design a simple 1-week rope programme.
- Training includes double rope variations and correct mechanics.
IASTM Level 1
- This covers basic IASTM techniques, including how to scan soft tissue using tools.
- Students will also learn how to treat tissue to intentionally produce mild inflammation for healing purposes.
BFRT Level 1
- Introduction to blood flow restriction training including basic science, safety principles, and indications.
- Students will learn how to apply cuffs correctly and design beginner-level programming for recovery and rehabilitation.
Barbell Lifting Level 1
- Fundamentals of barbell movement will be taught, including squats, deadlifts, and presses.
- Students will also be introduced to the landmine attachment and the use of battlebands for assistance or resistance.
- Application in a group class setting will also be covered.
Stretch Therapy Level 1
- Covers how to use stretch straps for assisted stretching.
- Students will learn basic stretching protocols for 1:1.
- Students will learn how to lead and participate in group stretching sessions using the Stretch MOB format.
Programming Level 1
- Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of weekly programme design.
- They will learn how to structure plans for strength, hypertrophy, and endurance, and understand the differences between them.
Tools Training Level 1 – Suspension Tools
- Covers basic suspension exercises including squat, push, pull, and plank variations.
- Focus is on teaching correct body positioning, alignment, and tempo.
Tools Training Level 1 – Dead Ball
- Students will learn foundational dead ball movements including cleans and various carry styles.
- Emphasis is on control, load management, and functional flow.
Kinesiology Taping Level 1
- Introduction to I-taping techniques.
- Students will learn how to apply tape to facilitate muscle activation and how to down-regulate overactive muscles.
Breathing Level 1
- Basic breathing anatomy and physiology will be introduced.
- Students will learn how to use breathing techniques to regulate the nervous system, promote recovery, and improve wellbeing.
- Includes introductory practice of diaphragmatic breathing and simple breath control techniques.

Assessment & Graduation
To ensure professional competence and knowledge retention, all students are required to complete a theory examination at the end of their internship. A 100% passing rate is mandatory in order to graduate from Level 1 and receive certification. This standard reflects our commitment to producing skilled, safety-conscious professionals who are fully prepared to work with clients in a real-world environment.
What’s Next?
Graduates of Level 1 will be eligible to enrol in Level 2 — a deeper dive into intermediate programming, sports-specific tools, and advanced applications of the techniques and principles learned in Level 1. This allows for continued professional growth and layered expertise.
