Dry Needling Clinic 1 

Course Description:
This is the first part of a two series certification which serves three extensive days of clinical knowledge. We will look into the historical, anatomical, theoretical, practical hands-on and clinical aspects of Dry Needling, in addition to efficiency of treatment, safety precautions and guidelines. 
Each muscle covered is reviewed in regards to it's origin, insertion, neuromuscular and vascular components. We recommend participants are very familiar with anatomy and muscle function, although we will provide an update on anatomy and palpation skills. Accurate and specific anatomical knowledge is the cornerstone of any physical therapy treatment.


Course Objectives:
Understand the specific indications and contraindications of Dry Needling
Be able to apply treatment in accordance to the safety guidelines rules
Know when and where to appropriately apply treatment, follow assessment procedures
Know possible side effects and complications of DN and will be able to react appropriately
Locate and efficiently palpate specific muscles
Update and revise detailed understanding and knowledge of anatomy and myofascial trigger points
Gain plenty of hands-on practical experience 


Course Aims:
Understand basic scientific backgrounds of myofascial trigger points and identify features of these by physical examination. Use surface anatomy palpation and knowledge of function to be able to identify the trunk, head, spine, pelvis, hip, thigh, neck, shoulder, upper and lower extremity, TMJ, hand and foot muscles. Know clinical symptoms and perpetuating factors of each muscle. 


Course Outcome:
Participants will have strong clinical reasoning for using Dry Needling in conjunction with treatments available to practitioners. Participants will provide safe and effective treatment of muscular dysfunction(s) using Dry Needling.

  • Introduction and history of the theory behind Dry Needling 
  • Why use Dry Needling treatments
  • How to preform Dry Needling 
  • Safety precautions and guidelines 
  • Muscle and fascial structure and function (tensegrity).
  • Superficial and deep Dry Needling.
  • Detailed introduction to myofascial trigger points.
  • First hand experience and practise of Dry Needling 
  • Detailed structural and functional anatomy of muscles
  • The Techniques 
  • Muscles of treatment of the hip region
  • Muscle and treatment of the thigh region 
  • Clinical relevance of the area treated    
  • Arteries of lower extremity
  • Palpation of pulses
  • Continued hands on practise
  • Myofascial trigger point syndrome introduction.
  • Detailed structural and functional anatomy of muscles and techniques of Dry Needling                                                                  
  • Muscles and treatment of shoulders
  • Muscles and treatment of upper extremities
  • Clinical relevance of the areas treated
  • Arteries of upper extremities and palpation of pulses


Pre- requirements:
Dry Needling Clinic is for medical and healthcare professionals including Physiotherapists (PT’s), Chiropractors (DC’s), Osteopaths (DO’s), Podiatrists, Soft tissue and Manual therapists, Kinesiologists, Doctors, Nurses, and acupuncturists; for whom dry needling is within your scope of practice and who are legally permitted to needle in your registered country / state. Some sports / rehab / massage therapists can apply subject to scope of practice, theoretical and practical experience. 

No dry needling experience required.

Strong clinical and anatomy knowledge required due to the invasive nature of needling.

NOTE: All practitioners must pass both theoretical and practical testing on this course and demonstrate safety and competency in order to receive a certificate of completion and begin utilising the Dry Needling technique after the course. 

What is granted upon completion: Certificate of Dry Needling Level I
Credentials earned: DNP I (Dry Needling Practitioner level I)
Length of course: 3 days 
Tuition Fee Level 1: SGD $1000

Level 2: SGD $900
Level 1&2: SGD $1500
