What is a stretch course?
Unlike yoga or a fitness course, students learn a deeper understanding of how stretching can help with sports, alignment, aches, & pain. Students will learn core concepts of joint mobility, flexibility, & release tightness, & how even stretch therapy can be used in a rehabilitation setting for sports injuries/training. Rest of the world, stretching is not something many health & fitness professional take a moment to address & is mostly underlooked at which makes it a higher necessity with the current lifestyle. In Not Singapore, the only way to become qualified to offer functional stretch therapy is to sit through a gruelling 7 week training course learning about stretching techniques, & to manage common areas such as the lower back, spine, hips, & shoulder.
If you're thinking this is close to yoga or pilates you are far from it. Stretch therapy class is a form of manual therapy that you will apply to affect muscle, unlike a pilates or yoga class, students will learn how to traction, do joint mobilisation, & help clients become more flexible. FST is such a gentle yet deep stretch to the body that you can apply it to a range of clients, including athletes, & any age group.
Can functional stretch therapy help with posture?
Students will learn how to apply stretching techniques to help improve posture by improving/increasing joint mobility, flexibility in muscles, & exercise/workout will enhance performance through dynamic flexibility, in which, it would also reduce the risk of injury, & recover faster from a workout. Each student will learn how chronic aches & pain(a form of mechanical compensation) are usually a sign of muscles overworking, & some dormant muscles are needed to exercise. Functional stretch helps the body release overall muscle tension in hard to reach places such as the hips, & upper body(shoulders & neck) to become more supple/elastic. When you have below an ideal range of motion, exercises carry a higher risk of injuries because the body(muscles) can't distribute weight & causes repetitive tension.
Where is the stretching course help in Singapore?
The stretch class student group will be lead by the instructor at Movement & Sports Medicine Centre where you will be practising under the supervision of an instructor. Throughout the practical classes, instructors will teach you to become efficient with the FST system, apply safe, & effective stretch, & experience working on different body types.
